Environmental Health and Safety Services (EHSS) maintains an inventory of all solvent cleaning units (parts washers, degreasers) used and/or maintained on campus to ensure compliance with NYS DEC’s air emission regulations. It is the responsibility of the department operating the cleaning unit to register the unit with EHSS, and to inform EHSS of any changes/modifications made to it including changes in the cleaning solvent used, and to properly use, label and maintain the unit in compliance with 6 NYCRR Part 226. EHSS must also be informed, at least annually, of the solvent consumption volume (i.e. through solvent use volumes) for each unit using the on-line annual solvent consumption form. All waste products removed from these units must be disposed of in accordance with the University’s Hazardous Waste Management Program.
