Policy Statement

The Department of Public Safety asks all Syracuse University students, staff, and faculty to assist in making the campus safer by being alert to suspicious situations and promptly reporting them.

To report a crime in progress or other emergency:

  • Call the Department of Public Safety at 711 from a University phone or 443-2224 from any other phone. Incidents may also be reported in person at Public Safety headquarters located in the ground floor of Sims Hall.
  • If you believe the Syracuse Police are needed for an emergency or criminal incident, dial 911 and then inform Public Safety by calling 443-2224.
  • The TIPS telephone line at 315-443-TIPS (8477) is available to leave an anonymous report on a voice mail system.
