Policy Statement

The University provides benefits for short-term disabilities, including maternity, to all employees pursuant to the disability benefits provisions of the Workers’ Compensation Law of the State of New York. Additional short-term and long-term disability benefits are awarded to certain Benefits Eligible Employees.

Non-Exempt Employees

A non-exempt Benefits Eligible Employee may be eligible for supplemental short-term disability benefits under the Syracuse University Disability Benefits Plan. The requirements of the Disability Benefits Plan that must be satisfied in order to receive benefits include, but are not limited to, the employee having a hire date prior to the beginning of the current fiscal year. Faculty and Exempt Employees

The University’s Salary Continuation Plan for Benefits Eligible faculty and exempt staff provides benefits for qualifying short-term disabilities, including maternity leaves, and long-term disabilities. The Salary Continuation Plan has requirements that must be satisfied in order to receive benefits. Administrative Provisions

Any supplemental disability payments will be made in accordance with the terms of the Disability Benefits Plan and the Salary Continuation Plan, as appropriate, and the terms of those plans will control.
